Rep. Nolan Announces $250,000 Department of Transportation Grant for Ely Municipal Airport

ELY, MN. – Ely Municipal Airport will receive $250,000 in improvement funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration, Eighth District Congressman Rick Nolan announced today.

 

The grant will provide federal funding to rehabilitate the airport’s runway, which will include restoring the current lighting system and repairing sections of the runway to maintain structural integrity and reduce debris along the tarmac.

 

Nolan, a member of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee’s Subcommittee on Aviation, as well as the General Aviation Caucus, noted, “Ely Municipal Airport is a vital hub for business people and tourists alike. This grant means jobs here in Ely and all across the Range, while helping assure that planes take off and land on a smooth, safe surface with plenty of light, regardless of what our northern Minnesota weather brings.”
