Nolan's reaction to Trump's Address
Immediately following the President’s remarks, U.S. Rep. Rick Nolan said: “The President made some great promises to support fair trade, transportation infrastructure and bipartisanship – but the problem is we can’t believe him, because at one point or another he’s been on every side of every issue. I want to believe him, but I’ll hold final judgement until I see the details of his plans. Meanwhile, I’ll continue fighting in the Congress to ensure we rebuild our transportation infrastructure, preserve Social Security and Medicare, create good-paying jobs and protect working people’s pensions. Hopefully President Trump will be true to his rhetoric and join us in supporting these initiatives.”
Nolan was joined by constituent Sherman Liimatainen, Vice President & Treasurer of the National United Committee to Protect Pensions, for President Donald Trump’s first address before a Joint Session of Congress. Liimatainen played a lead role in persuading U.S. Treasury to reject a plan that would have gutted the pensions of 400,000 working Americans.
