Nolan Statement on Republican Legislation That Cuts Medicare And Critical Public Health Programs to Pay for CHIP and Community Health Centers
[WASHINGTON D.C.] U.S. Rep. Rick Nolan today released the following statement regarding Republican legislation that cuts Medicare and critical Public Health programs in order to pay for Children’s Health Insurance Programs (CHIP) and Community Health Care Centers:
“I strongly support funding the Children’s Health Insurance Program and our Community Health Centers, but it is disgraceful to pay for these programs by cutting Medicare and the Public Health programs that help prevent diseases,” Nolan said. “I reject the implication that we should choose between children’s health insurance and Medicare. It is our moral responsibility to support the lives and wellbeing of all Minnesotans, whether they are seniors, children, or any other vulnerable group.”
Rep. Nolan, a longtime strong advocate for CHIP and public health, has sent along with his colleagues multiple letters urging House leadership and the Energy and Commerce Committee to reauthorize and fully fund CHIP and Community Health Centers.
