Brainerd Dispatch: More than $1.2 million awarded to Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport
WASHINGTON—U.S. Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken, along with Rep. Rick Nolan, announced Tuesday the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport a grant of $1,253,575 for infrastructure improvements, a news release said.
"The funds from this grant will help the Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport make critical investments in its infrastructure to move goods and people quickly," Klobuchar said in the release. "Investing in our airports will boost performance, enhance safety, and help support good local jobs."
Franken said the grant would boost the economy and safety.
"Minnesotans who rely on the Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport will continue to travel safely thanks to this new grant from the Transportation Department," Franken said. "This infrastructure investment will improve safety at the airport while supporting Minnesota jobs and the local economy."
Nolan also commended the grant.
"Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport is a vital hub for business people and tourists alike," Nolan said. "This grant means good-paying jobs here in Brainerd and all across the region, while helping ensure safe and efficient travel."
This grant will allow the airport to rehabilitate its taxiways and terminal building.
