Bemidji Pioneer: Cass Lake Bena student wins Congressional Art Competition
CASS LAKE -- U.S. Rep. Rick Nolan recently announced that Arnold Kingbird, a junior at Cass Lake Bena High School, is the winner of the 2017 Congressional Art Competition for Minnesota’s Eighth Congressional District.
Kingbird’s artwork is titled “Modern Northwest Coast Designs.”
Each Congressional District’s winning artwork is displayed for one year in the halls of the U.S. Capitol, and the student artist receives a trip for themselves and a parent or guardian to come to Washington for the unveiling on June 29.“I used a southwest coast design, along with using modern colors. I drew northwest coast shapes on the feet, tail, and near the tail. I colored the feet with Native American medicine wheel colors along with drawing canoes up the sides of the reptile. It’s a traditional made artwork used with modern colors with Native American artwork in it,” said Kingbird about his artwork.
