Keep The Government Running? Or Shut It Down?
Some members of Congress advocate shutting it down. I am determined to reach across the aisle in a bipartisan effort to keep our government running. Here's the situation:
The Federal government is about to run out of money on October 1, and since Congress has failed to pass the next round of appropriations bills, one of two things will happen.
Congress will either pass a "continuing resolution" to keep the government running at current levels while we continue the budget debate. Or the resolution will fail because members in the Majority Party will hold our government hostage by including a “defund Obamacare” provision while maintaining the sequester and reducing funding to 2008 levels. And the Federal government will shut down. What an irresponsible, unnecessary, unmitigated disaster that would be.
As I have said before, the common sense solution is for moderate Democrats and Republicans to defeat the radicals, pass a continuing resolution, and then work together to pass a 2014 budget that ends the failed sequester and gets us started rebuilding America, generating good-paying middle class jobs.
