WDIO: Women Gather to Address Issues in the Workplace
A forum in Duluth on Saturday focused on the issues facing women in the workplace.
Rep. Rick Nolan is hosting these across the 8th district. His wife, realtor and broker Mary Nolan, was there, along with other women who are community and business leaders in Duluth.
Rep. Nolan said the aim is to provide more opportunities in business. He said he wants to address issues like women making 27 percent less in profits than men.
"I have two daughters, they're business owners," he said. "I have six granddaughters. I want all of them to have every opportunity that my male colleagues have had. So this is about trying to educate, trying to illuminate, trying to discover where changes can be made and things can be improved."
Nolan said he's targeting legislation at equal pay, affordable child care and raising the minimum wage.
